What Affects the Cost of Digital Signage

Digital signage projects vary widely in cost. Understanding the factors that influence pricing helps you budget realistically and avoid surprises. This guide covers the main cost drivers — from hardware and installation to content and ongoing support.

Screen Type and Technology

The display technology you choose has the biggest impact on cost. Standard commercial monitors are the most affordable option — they are essentially professional-grade TVs designed for continuous operation. LCD video walls, which tile multiple panels together, cost more because you are buying several screens plus mounting hardware and calibration.

Direct-view LED (DV-LED) walls are the premium option. They produce seamless, bezel-free canvases at almost any size, but the cost per square metre is higher than LCD. Within DV-LED, the pixel pitch (measured in millimetres) is the key price driver — finer pitch means more LEDs per square metre and higher resolution, but also higher cost.

Display Size and Quantity

Larger displays cost more — both in hardware and in installation complexity. A single 55-inch commercial monitor is relatively straightforward; a 4-metre by 2-metre LED video wall requires structural mounting, multiple panels, and professional calibration.

For multi-site projects, the number of locations multiplies the cost, though bulk hardware purchasing and efficient installation routing can reduce the per-site cost. We plan multi-site rollouts to minimise travel and maximise installation efficiency.

Indoor vs Outdoor

Outdoor digital signage costs more than indoor. Outdoor displays need IP-rated weatherproofing, higher brightness (typically 3,000–8,000 cd/m² versus 350–500 cd/m² for indoor), and weatherproof cabling and enclosures. The structural mounting also needs to withstand wind loading.

If your display is in a window facing outward, you need high-brightness indoor displays (around 2,000 cd/m²) to cut through glare — these cost more than standard indoor monitors but less than full outdoor units.

Installation and Mounting

Installation costs depend on access, height, and structural requirements. A wall-mounted monitor at eye level is straightforward. A video wall on a structurally reinforced wall, or a display mounted at height requiring powered access (IPAF-certified operators), adds labour and equipment costs.

We include installation in our turnkey quotations. Our teams are SSSTS, CSCS, IPAF, and PASMA certified, which means we can work on construction sites, at height, and in corporate environments without needing subcontractors.

Content and Screen Management

Hardware is only part of the investment. Content — the images, videos, and animations displayed on your screens — is what makes signage effective. We produce content in-house using Adobe After Effects and the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite.

Screen management software lets you schedule, publish, and monitor content across one or many displays from a browser. This can be a one-time software licence or an ongoing managed service, depending on whether you want to manage content yourself or have us handle it.

Ongoing Costs

Beyond the initial installation, consider ongoing costs: electricity consumption, content updates, software subscriptions, and maintenance. Commercial displays are designed for 16/7 or 24/7 operation and typically have a rated lifespan of 30,000–100,000 hours depending on technology.

We provide warranty information with every quotation and offer maintenance contracts for ongoing support. Planning for these costs upfront helps you budget for the full lifecycle of your digital signage, not just day one.
